Florida Teacher's Blog Hop

image
My blogger friends and I would like to welcome you to our Florida teacher blog hop! But before we get started why don’t you go grab yourself a nice tall cup of coffee… Now sit back and relax while we take you on a quick tour of The Sunshine State. While here don’t forget to grab yourself a few FREEBIES and remember to enter for a chance to win our Bundles of Sunshine!image I live in Miami which is about 3 ½ hours from Disney World…my family’s second home! We are very fortunate to live so close to the parks and so we usually make at least one trip a year to Disney. As a matter of fact, just last week we were up in Universal and Islands of Adventure visiting the brand new Harry Potter rides….AMAZING… they were definitely worth the 5:00 am wake up call!!!!! image I’ve lived in Miami pretty much my entire life… except for the 5 months that I went away to college in Tampa, FL. I will be honest, though, in telling you that my husband and I have considered moving due to how congested and over populated Miami has become. However, for the time being this is still our home :0) imageLiving in sunny South Florida sure has its benefits… especially for those like myself that HATE the cold weather. You see one of the best parts of living here is that you can wear flip flops, shorts, and tank tops pretty much year round. You see the weather in Florida is H-O-T, hot!!!!! And I must say for the past few years it has been a scorcher.
Many people hear Miami and automatically think of South Beach. However, my family and I don’t get out to SB quite often. Instead, one of our favorite places to go on a Saturday is to Everglades National Park. This park is said to be one of the most unusual public parks in the US. and I happen to think it is also quite amazing! Take a look …  Female American Anhinga with Young at Nest - Everglades National Park, Florida Dollarphotoclub_24105585 The Florida everglades is also the only place in the world where alligators and crocodiles can co-exist?… Interesting… This park has so much to do and see… you can boat, hike, bike, canoe, fish, and camp just to name a few activities you can do here. What you will surely see in this park is plenty of wildlife such as alligators, manatees, spoonbills, egrets, and these amazing birds called anhingas that appear to scuba dive underwater looking for fish and then suddenly emerge on the surface. So now that you’ve learned a little bit about Miami, it’s time for a few FREEBIES! For the next 3 days you will have an opportunity to check out each of our blogs to snag yourself some wonderful ideas for your own classroom. To grab my freebie all you have to do is click on the image below.
image This freebie would be a wonderful Back to School activity to use with your students during those hectic first few weeks of school when you’re getting to know your students. I wrote about the same thing in my post – Everglades National Park! 🙂 It is beautiful. Also, I can't pass up a trip to Disney or Universal. I love how they redid the Dueling Dragons to have a Harry Potter-ish theme!

Meredith, I think many people visit Miami and overlook the Everglades because they think it's just swamps and gators, but as we both know there is so much to see and do there. It's one of our favorites! Plus I never get tired of watching the Anhingas :0)
Unfortunately or fortunately (depends on who you ask) Dueling Dragons was closed in the morning when we arrived. Maybe next time!

Hey Melissa! I love how well you showcased our beautiful state. When I lived in South Florida, I love how good the Cuban Coffee was. I may be slightly addicted to coffee. Thanks for sharing with us:)

    Take care, Amy

Hi, Amy… Thanks for stopping by and leaving me some love!
You want to hear something funny? My parents are Cuban and everyone even says that my mom makes the best Cafecito Cubano… I, on the other hand, DON'T like the taste of it and won't dare attempt to even make it. I'm afraid it would taste like dirt. Isn't that just hilarious?

Melissa, I am so jealous of where you live! I am from Nebraska. My family travels to Florida every year for vacation. I wish I could wake up everyday in Florida and have it be like living a vacation 🙂 Two weeks ago we went to Universal (1 day before Harry Potter opened), the Keys, and Naples. A lot of driving, but well worth it! I love reading about Florida. Thanks!

Reading your comment made me think about EXACTLY how lucky I am to live here! I guess since I've lived here my entire life, I never thought of it like that. Thank you for helping me see something so obvious!
Ahhh, you have to go to Universal on your next visit and see Diagon Alley and all the Harry Potter rides… they are AMAZING!!!!! The Keys and Naples are 2 of my favorite cities. I love the Keys for it's relaxed atmosphere and Naples is just so pristine and clean. You definitely know how to choose your vacation destinations!

I love, love, love driving through the Everglades to get to Miami. Such a peaceful ride. I lived on the other side of the Everglades for 30 years in Naples. Miami is definitely congested, but I love all the culture. Definitely miss the warm weather in the Winter in South Florida. Winters up in the Panhandle are COLD….to me. It doesn't bother other people though. I was in shock for the first three years I lived here.

Alison, you are absolutely right, the drive is peaceful and the park is the same way! It's amazing to be standing on a dock so close to a bunch of gators and at the same time be able to look up into the trees and watch Spoonbill birds feeding their young. Nothing like being out in nature to appreciate the beauty around us. I definitely feel for you during the winter time. I don't understand how some people love the cold. I mean whenever the temp. drops below 65 my nose starts to run! So trust me, I can understand the shock you experienced.

Loved seeing all the pictures of the everglades. I remember visiting a mangrove swamp when I was there. I have NEVER seen so many mosquitoes, LOL. We ran out of there as fast as we could. Would love to get back to your area again.

The Everglades is one of the places I miss most about living in Miami… besides Sergios and La Carreta 😉 It's such an amazing little getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday Miami life. I can't make cafecito even if my life depended on it. It's my abuela's specialty though 🙂
